Eligibility
The Sugar Memorial Fund was created to honor Sugar’s life by helping families provide their beloved pets with a peaceful, compassionate goodbye when finances become an unexpected barrier. Every gift made to the fund helps another family during one of life’s most difficult moments.
Purpose
The Sugar Memorial Fund exists to provide compassionate financial assistance to families facing the difficult decision of humane euthanasia for a beloved pet. The fund is intended to ensure that financial hardship does not prevent a pet from receiving a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience.
General Eligibility
Applicants will generally meet the following criteria:
- Reside in Wichita Falls or a surrounding community.
- Be experiencing financial hardship or an unexpected financial challenge.
- Be the owner or primary caregiver of the pet.
- Have the pet evaluated by a PETS Clinic veterinarian (or provide records from a referring veterinarian, if applicable).
- The attending veterinarian determines that humane euthanasia is the most appropriate medical recommendation.
Covered Services
The fund may assist with:
- Humane euthanasia performed at PETS Clinic
- Standard cremation services
- Basic aftercare associated with euthanasia
Services Not Covered
- In-home euthanasia
- Diagnostic testing performed solely to establish eligibility
- Medical treatment or surgery
- Emergency stabilization
- Hospitalization
- Specialty or referral services
- Memorial products (urns, jewelry, paw prints, etc.), unless specifically included by the fund
Funding Considerations
Because funds are limited, assistance may also consider:
- Current availability of memorial funds
- Urgency of the medical situation
- Number of pets already assisted that month
- Whether other financial resources are available
Receiving assistance once does not guarantee future assistance.
** Because every family’s situation is unique, PETS Clinic reserves the right to approve or deny assistance based on individual circumstances, even if an applicant does not meet every guideline listed above. **
Additional Guidelines
- Assistance is not guaranteed and is subject to available funding.
- Assistance may cover all or part of the costs.
- Clients may be asked to contribute toward services when able.
- Providing false information may make an applicant ineligible for future assistance.
